About
Aikido
Aikido is a non-competitive martial art developed in the early 20th century by a Japanese martial arts expert, Morihei Ueshiba (often referred to as O Sensei or ‘Great Teacher’). It is based on a series of throws and immobilization techniques, using the attacker’s strength, momentum and aggression against them. As Aikido relies on skill and not strength, it can be practised by people of all ages and physical abilities.

I have been practicing with Luciano at Kurita Juku Aiki Calgary for more than one year. I find this martial art a fascinating way to learn self-defense, while I find inner peace and balance. I love the philosophy of controlling an attack with the minimum of force. Luciano has the capacity to relate the teaching to our daily life on simple things like breathing, walking or falling down. I love to finish the week practicing aikido every Sunday morning
When I started aikido I thought that it would be like most martial arts, about fighting other people to win a battle. But during the first class, I realized I was completely wrong. It is all about defending yourself while also protecting the other person. Luciano teaches everything clearly patiently until you get it right while at the same time pushing you too do and be better. I cannot stress how much aikido has changed my perspective on self-defense and helped me understand how to react in a situation where someone could be attacking you. Really recommend coming abs training Aikido, especially with Luciano.
